2012 Music and Drama Camp

Looking for an exciting way to spend a week in the summer? The Beckett School’s Music and Drama Magic workshop still has a few spaces for some creative kids ages 7-13. In a mere five days, we will learn and perform an entire musical, as well as make props, create costumes and paint a set, all the while learning the craft of acting and singing.

Sound impossible? Not with a great group of kids, a good sense of humor, and lots of dedication to the art of story-telling and singing.

This year, we’re delighted to have chosen Sally Albrecht and Jay Althouse's "The Drum.

Folk tales are stories that have been passed down from generation to generation in a culture.  But just like playing the "Telephone Game" at a party, the stories change as often as they are told and retold.  The Drum is based on such a tale from India, recounting the relationship between a mother and child, and celebrating the generous nature of humankind.  We can all learn from this wonderful tale.

During this exciting week of Music and Drama Magic, participants will learn how to prepare a dialogue, explore their singing voice, learn songs, explore choreography and improvisation, as well as paint, draw and create. On Friday, we will present the finished product to friends and family and give ourselves a good ‘pat on the back’ for a week of hard (but fun!) work. Come be a part of a magical week and find your inner singing-actor!
